Elliott's First Year

Well, here we are.
One year ago today, at this very moment, the process was officially underway in what would eventually turn into a 16 hour attempt at traditional labor until the assessment was made and it was decided that your moms hips and your head were not in agreement with one another.
What a great, great ride it’s been, Elliott. First off, no matter what happens going forward, the first year has been nothing but a pleasure every moment that we are your parents. You, in all of your infinite wisdom, have been calm and patient with us as we learn how to be parents and you learn how to be a baby. I can’t believe, sitting here right now on the eve of your first birthday, that we are here already. We haven’t dropped you, you have only been sick once and you have only had one minor infection (ask about that one after puberty). You have managed to let us sleep at least partially of every single night since you arrived (which I think is your single greatest accomplishment to date and the one that I am the most grateful for). That’s not to say that there haven’t been so legendary accomplishments– you have more teeth that have broken the surface at this point than I can count and you haven’t shown it is painful in the least– it’s like they just magically appear, like the tooth fairy put them there. Honestly, I thought teething would cause sleepless nights for sure, but here we are and you seem to be just fine with it.
I will try to write more tomorrow, your Mom is setting up your gifts and all of the surprises for you– and I couldn’t tell you what they are now anyway– that wouldnt be fair.
We love you very much, my boy — Happy Birthday!!!
